This weekend my family took a much needed family outing. I admit I was skeptical in the beginning: visiting the grandparents in middle of nowhere Folkston, GA, but it was a good time filled with laughs and South Georgia BBQ. We went to the BEACH. I can’t remember the last time I went to a real live beach before this weekend. I’ll admit, I always feel awkward when I do “family” things with my Dad’s side of the family because I didn’t grow up with them—that’s a sad story for another day—but this weekend wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. I’ll admit, I got some freaky ear infection from swimming, but it may have been worth it. Next time you are in Jacksonville Florida, stay at the Sheraton near St. John’s Town Center and hit up Ponte Vedra beach…the more family and friends you take, the better. Coming from a habitual family outing skipper, every now and again it’s good to hang with your folks.
